Hot!

Today is foggy, cold, rainy and snowy. A perfect day to stay under the covers with a good book. As soon as I can tear myself away from the internets and the addiction known as Mafia Wars. 

We haven't had the best couple of days here. Yesterday, Declan got a hold of my (very hot) curling iron and burned his hand. It was one of those moments where you turn your head for a moment and all of a sudden they are screaming bloody murder. He has a pretty bad burn but nothing too serious. He walked around all day yesterday with his hand in the air crying "hot!". Poor little guy. Now he has a blister that I am supposed to keep him from picking. Wish me luck.

This morning he woke up barfing everywhere. Good times for all. Not sure what we are dealing with as he has no fever. 

Other than injured and sick toddlers not much going on! Last weekend I painted and decorated our powder room. I'll post pics once I get around to taking them. Why does painting always end up taking 10x longer than you planned?

Thomas is headed to Telluride with a friend this weekend to help out with towing a car so it's just me and my little man. Possibly some girlfriends and, of course, vino.

Next week is Thanksgiving! I will be headed to MN to spend the holiday with family. Thomas will be flying from MN to Louisiana for work on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and I get to spend 3 weeks at my parents house. Who wants to throw a party in my honor? I can't wait to see everyone!

Family, Date Night & MINE!

This past week my mom was in town visiting and giving me a much needed break. My brother, Brian, also joined us. We all just hung out here at home, did some shopping, lot's of eating and plenty of wine drinking.  We took Declan to Monkey Bizness where he spent 2 hours running his little butt off. This is, by far, the best invention EVER. It's an indoor play area equipped with every play structure imaginable in addition to a coffee shop for the moms. 

Friday night Tom and I had date night! We headed to downtown Denver for the Ski & Snowboard Convention. I was hoping to find a great deal on new ski boots but unfortunately, the only ones I wanted were almost $500. Eventually I came to my senses and decided against them. Maybe next spring when they go on sale. Afterwards we headed to The Keg Steakhouse for a nice dinner and then off to Fado's Irish Pub for more cocktails. It's been a long time since I hit up the downtown bars. This place was perfect. It wasn't crowded and had a warm, cozy atmosphere. I would definitely go back.....next time mom is in town! We stayed until it as time to catch the last train home. 

Declan is becoming more and more of a "little boy" every day. It's just so much fun. And some days not so much fun. He's becoming even more headstrong than before. I thought his tantrum a year ago were bad. Holy cow. Last night he screamed for a 1/2 hour for no reason at all. He was really pissed off! I can't help but laugh when it happens, and that just makes it worse. He doesn't want to go to bed at night either, which used to be so easy. Now what happens is he'll chuck his nuk at my head as if to say "ha ha, I'll show you lady!". Then he'll throw everything out of his crib and cry until I put all of it back in, only to do it all over again. And everything is "Mine" now. If I'm eating an apple it's "Mine apple".  What fun it can be!

We did it!

Mr. President Barack Obama! I love how that sounds. To say that I am happy about the election results would be a huge understatement. I am so proud to have been a part of this and even prouder to witness the history we made as a nation. I get all nerdy and patriotic when I think about it. I know this word gets tossed around a lot in regards to Obama and many of my Republican friends are about to roll their eyes, but I feel so hopeful. And I haven't felt that way in such a long time. I cried many a tear Tuesday night. And again Wednesday morning. I wanted to shout from the rooftops on election night. Not sure if that was my joy or the tequila shots my neighbors gave me though?

I don't have any illusions about immediate change starting January 21st, 2009. It's going to take a very long time. And we may not even see real change until well past Obama's term in office. But I have absolute faith that he is the right man for the job. I know there are those of you out there that did not vote for Obama and probably feel exactly the opposite of what I am feeling right now. I sincerely hope (there's that damn word again!) that you will find our new president to be a good & trustworthy leader. I believe that he will not disappoint you.

Onward & upward! 

Election Day

Today is such an exciting day! I am so happy that all of this nonsense will soon be behind us. I think it is so amazing that we are witnessing history today. Whomever wins, we are writing a new chapter for our history books today and that gives me goosebumps. I know. I am a dork. While I don't agree with Sarah Palin's politics, I can't argue that it isn't momentous that she may be the first woman VP. Though it doesn't quite give me the warm fuzzies that I get from Obama's chance at the Presidency.  In any case, I will probably be glued to the news channels today. Hopefully I will be celebrating a democratic win tonight and then I can go back to worrying about really important things like whether the next Bachelorette couple will actually stay together.

We had a great Halloween weekend here. We took Declan trick-or-treating downtown Castle Rock on Friday afternoon and then Thomas took him around the neighborhood that evening. I stayed in to drink wine with Jessie and hand out candy.  Halloween is one of my favorite holidays! Is there anything cuter than kids in costumes? I think not.

Tomorrow my mom comes for a visit. Thomas and I have a hot date planned this weekend while we have a babysitter. We're headed to the Ski & Snowboard Convention (wasn't my idea!) and then out for dinner.
